Abba is here!

Rachel's dad is visiting for the weekend to be part of Davy's blessing on Sunday. Here are some pictures of the proud grandpa (who is called Abba) and his namesake.

Good Times

Note to self: this is what happens when you forget to use a burp rag.

What's up chica? (At Rachel's baby shower the activity was for all the attendees to design a onesie. We have a lot of really unique and funny onesies as a result. Our pediatrician even remembered us by the onesies!)

Just me and my paci, hanging out and keeping cool.

What, am I on camera?

Oh Mom, stop! You're embarrassing me!

Enjoying thinking time in the bath.

This weekend our family went up to Lowell, MA to visit a quilt museum. Davy was a good sport and Collin was too! We enjoyed seeing the incredible creations made from fabric. We love taking Davy out in public because he gets so much admiration. People want to know how old he is, then coo over him and say how sweet he is. They also want to know his name and more than once the reaction we have got when we have told them 'David' is, "Oh, what a nice normal name! And all the Davids I have known have been such nice people."

Glorious Sleep

Today marks a wonderful occasion. Last night Davy slept for a full five hours and fifteen minutes before waking--relatively cheerfully!--to let us know that he was hungry. Hallelujah! Today is a beautiful day! And so much easier to face on so much sleep! Plus it's Friday!

Kung Fu Baby

After many suggestions from Rachel's family, we finally decided to rent Kung Fu Panda from Redbox for one of our cheap Friday night dates. We thought it was pretty funny, and even Davy got into the action!

Surviving

Well, we are half-way through Collin's first week back at work and Rachel and Davy's first week alone during the day. And it hasn't been so bad, after all. Rachel got brave enough to give Davy a bath by herself. Davy loves baths. The first second of being naked and in the water is a shock, but after that he relaxes and thoroughly enjoys himself. It must feel like home to him. The plus for Rachel is that it takes up an inordinate amount of the day! Rachel is watching the marathon Pride and Prejudice while feeding Davy. Next will probably be the Anne of Green Gables saga! Yesterday Rachel strapped Davy in his baby carrier yesterday and walked a few blocks to visit with a friend (it was a warm day--the calm before the negative degree weather forecast for this weekend!). Davy loves when Dad comes home, because that is when he gets play time and doesn't have to be set down for any reason but can be held all he wants.

Milestones

Davy got his first bath this morning! He didn't know quite what to expect, but all in all he liked it. Dad made sure he was warm and no drop of baby shampoo got in his eyes. He was pretty content to hang out in his nice warm towel for a while, too. Today was his last day to wear a newborn-sized outfit that Rachel picked out for him. This is both happy and sad for us--we are thrilled by this evidence that David is growing healthy and strong, but we are so sad that it is happening so quickly. Every moment is precious and we are so grateful we both have the time to enjoy his every facial expression, his yummy baby smell, and his cuddliness.

All is Well

We have much to celebrate at this time of year--Davy's birth, two years of marriage, a New Year, and, of course, Christ's birth. What a wonderful time to be alive and members of Christ's true church!

We are so excited about this New Year! We look forward to all the possibilities, challenges, and adventures awaiting us as new parents. Already we are feeling much more confident about things like diaper changes and calming a crying baby. We treasure those sweet moments in the early morning when Davy is sleepy and content and we are tired but still alive after a long night. And seeing Davy practice smiling in his sleep during those quiet moments is the icing on the cake!
