Davy, John Harvard, and Me

This weekend was out-of-this-world-beautiful and unseasonably warm--up to 85 degrees! I'm thinking that spring time here in Boston is especially gorgeous (what with all the flowering trees, flowers, leafing trees, blankets of green grass dotted with little blue and purple flowers, etc.) to make up for the nasty winters. Anyway, we're enjoying the time we finally get to be outside without coats. On Saturday we took the bus into Harvard Square to walk, people watch, get J.P. Licks ice cream, look for a Future Harvard Grad onesie, and pay a visit to Mr Harvard. We did all of the above, except find the onesie for Davy that we wanted.

This is a close-up of a cute new characteristic of Davy. He has taken to holding his hands this way, with the thumb tucked in between his other fingers.

And this is just a random picture from the changing table, which is Davy's very favorite place in the whole house (besides maybe up on Dad's shoulders grabbing his hair or nursing). He loves eating his little horse's hooves, but the mane and tail make him kind of gag if he starts sucking on them.

Giggles

We don't really know where all the giggling came from--he's never been so thrilled with that toy before!

At Davy's four-month appointment he weighed in at 13 lb 12 1/2 oz and 25 inches long. So he's in the 50th percentile and still pretty small in comparison with a lot of the babies his same age (and younger) around here, but he's healthy and smart and growing.

Walden Pond

We're suffering from allergies here, but in spite of that, this week has been so beautiful. Spring flowers are coming up and the weather is warming up enough so that coats aren't necessary. We are still in long sleeves, but oh, the liberty! We spent Saturday afternoon at Walden Pond, eating a picnic lunch and hiking (well, nature walking) through the woods to visit Thoreau's cabin site.

Easter Outfits

Happy Easter! We love this time of year--remembering Jesus, spring flower, warm (-er) weather, Cadbury eggs, Peeps, hollow chocolate bunnies (did you always feel ripped off about that as a kid, too?), etc. We found Davy a cute new church vest yesterday. Clearance at Gap for $5. Yeah! I love finding deals!

Collin was sweet enough to consent to match Davy's outfit today. Wow, what a handsome pair!

Collin is the artistic (and meticulous) one in the family. So guess which eggs are his. Yep, the Italian flag and the basketball eggs. I just put mine in the die for as long as I can be patient and then add stickers. :)

Daddy-son Bonding

Davy genuinely loves when Dad comes home. Mom is just too boring during the day. Sometimes I (Rachel) get a reluctant laugh, but the real giggling and games start after 6:00. I love watching my boys hang out together!

Davy loves the texture and taste of Dad's hair. He's getting really co-ordinated at pulling it, too. Hence the expression on Collin's face!

Collin practices the guitar with Davy for an audience. Davy's the only audience Collin actually likes playing for. I guess the baby isn't too intimidating or critical a listener.

I think we say, "Oh he's so cute!" at least 43 times a day. But it's true every time we say or think it, so it's okay. Davy is such a charmer. I especially love when I pick him up in the morning or after a nice nap--he smiles sleepily at me and nestles into my shoulder, putting his arms around my neck like a hug. He's becoming more playful, too. We have a fun game going when we get dressed in the morning. I try to get the clothes on him before he grabs the fabric and wads it up in his mouth and slobbers all over it. He's grinning his toothless, wide-mouthed grin the whole time and he's just so darn cute I start giggling as well. It's a great way to start the day!

I'm afraid most pictures from here on (for a while, at least) will feature Davy with his fingers in his mouth. Luckily we think it's charming.

Finger Sucking

Check out Davy in action.

Friday, April 3, 2009

Mmmm, fingers!

We apologize for the delay in between posts. Contrary to the generally held opinion, we don't sit around all day and take pictures of Davy--fun as that would be!

Anyway, here's a picture of Davy doing his new favorite thing.

He loves talking, too. The other night we were watching a movie while he slept. Part way through he woke up. We expected him to cry, and were amused to hear him start talking to himself--alone, in the dark--and keep talking for more than half an hour. Sometimes he gets this very intent look on his face with his eyebrows all furrowed, as if he is saying something really important that we need to understand.

Davy's also discovered singing. When Mom's singing a song while changing him or Dad's playing the piano Davy will join in, chattering away. When the music stops, he will too! We'll try to get a video of that sometime soon.
