I thought we were done with sickness but last night Eliza was ill in the night and today got progressively more uncomfortable. Though sent to bed, she's currently calling me every few minutes to help with one thing or another. A nose wipe, a head rub, a hug, a drink of water. You know, just yesterday this might have annoyed me after a certain point. Today, I was reminded yet again how quickly children grow up and become self-sufficient. We visited a former professor of mine and her children are mostly grown. In some ways I can't wait until I can leave the house with teenage children responsible for themselves. In more ways I recognize the blessing of loving where I'm at. And this is a very very good place and time.
Since we've been going to a toddler time at the National Gallery for several months now, we've learned a few new rhymes. I didn't know these before coming here, either from the many rhymes my own mom taught me as a child, or the toddler times I went to with the boys. There is one more, too, that my friend's son really likes called "zoom zoom to the moon" but we haven't learned that one well enough to make it our own. If we do I'll try to remember to catch it on video.
