Blueberry Picking

Friday some friends (Lindsay and her boys Spencer and Austin, and Ashley) invited us to go blueberry picking with them at a "pick-your-own" farm. Davy and I had a blast picking a quart of blueberries and, of course, tasting a few along the way. Davy loves 'em! It started raining as we were picking, but it was such a nice relief from the recent heat we couldn't complain.

When the rain got to be too much and our containers were full we treated ourselves to warm, fresh, blueberry donuts covered in sugar. Yum! Davy didn't get any. Yesterday I made a blueberry pie from all the berries. So Collin got to have a little taste of the fun day, too.

Cape Cod

This weekend we spontaneously decided to head to the Cape for some beach time and a nice drive. How totally cool that we can do that! We only decided to even go around noon, packed up the car, enjoyed our day fully, and were back by 11:00pm. We got to spend about an hour and a half at the beach where Davy loved the crashing waves and seagulls. He also liked putting big rocks in his mouth. They were cold from the ocean, so I think they felt good on his gums. (And I washed them off first and made sure they weren't too small to accidentally swallow.)

He was his usual happy, adorable self for all but ten minutes when riding backwards in the back seat all by himself was too boring. We drove the full length of the Cape--all the way to Provincetown. We saw the end of the world there, and got a picture. Then on the way home we enjoyed fresh seafood at "Catch of the Day". Collin had blackened salmon and I had an absolutely delicious grilled bluefish. I think it was the best fish I've ever had.

Davy can now sit up like a champ, and he definitely prefers it to being on his back or stomach. He is a lot more assertive about his playing, too. He is figuring out his favorite toys, getting distracted easily by too many options, and reaching for what he wants. He can put in his pacifier all by himself, now. About half the time it goes in up-side-down, but he's so proud about it! He only puts it in when he's already happy, though, so it's just another cool toy for him at this point. And we'll probably be taking it away before it gets too ingrained . . . maybe after the airplane trip to Utah in September. Enjoy these clips of every day play. I had to sneak the camera on, and you'll see when he noticed it on. I love how he poses and smiles!

Uncle Paul and Aunt Cheryl

The other week, we had a visit from Collin's Uncle Paul and Aunt Cheryl, who live in Batavia, NY. They were traveling to Nashua, NH and stopped by to see us and take us out to a nice Mexican restaurant. We showed them the Boston temple and our church building (just down the hill from the temple) before they had to leave. They brought Davy some cool outfits that Rachel loved. Davy mostly loved the bow that came with the presents.

Last Friday, Collin got to play some grass volleyball with a few friends from the ward. He was sore after not having played for so long, but it was great fun. Davy got in on the action a little, too!

Check out Davy's fun (for him) new game.

Tech-savvy Baby

Davy's also recognizing the camera and knows to smile when it is placed in front of his face. It's really adorable, but sometimes makes it hard to catch him in a serious expression or cute mood. We have to sneak up on him and quick! take a picture before he sees the camera for what it is.

Davy has officially decided that his favorite toy in the whole world is mom's or dad's phone. And who wouldn't love 'em? They're sleek and shiny, the perfect size to hold and fit in the mouth, and they light up when open! And all the grown-ups seem to be enamored of them, which makes them inevitably cool.

Every Day Activities

Here are some of the pictures we had taken while we were in California earlier this summer. I think they turned out really well. Thanks, Mom!

My, what handsome boys I have!

Davy and his cousin Evan are so adorable! It will be so fun to watch them grow up together.

Go Cougars! Abba (grandpa Dollahite) brought this for Davy when he was blessed in February. We're so excited it fits perfectly now, just in time to show off the cute "Y" on the bottom as Davy learns to crawl!

Davy loves to read, and I love when I can prop him up on the sofa next to me while I snatch ten minutes of reading, too! It's so sweet how his attention is just so focused on his toys or books as he moves them around and looks at and chews on them from every angle.

Davy's started to show some interest not just in the food, but in how the food is getting to him. He'll even "help" me bring the spoon to his mouth for about five bites. Then he decides it's too slow and he just wants the food after all.

All clean and dry! We still love bath time. I love bath time, too, because Collin takes over and I get ten precious minutes to do whatever I want! Usually I waste it away by eating dessert . . .

Our little Boston baby. I love that grin!

We went to the pediatrician yesterday for some booster shots and a regular check up. Davy's doing great (though we didn't need a doctor to tell us that!). His stats are: 16 lbs 15 1/2 oz. and 24 inches long (I could have sworn he'd grown longer than that, but it's not a super precise way of measuring, anyway). I don't remember the circumference of his head, but it was just fine. He is so smiley and happy and everyone his meets is an instant friend. He's a real charmer and the ladies love him!

4th Fun

We had loads of fun last week, with Janeil in town. It was a bit overcast and even rainy most of the week, but in comparison to hot and humid Washington D.C. it was so nice! We visited Mt. Auburn Cemetery, the Alcott home in Concord, Plimoth Plantation, Walden Pond, and several places in Boston. Davy was a real trooper, being cheerful and smiley most of the time. I think he really enjoys being out and about and seeing new things. He's quite the flirt and loves making new friends every where. But he does get bored of the stroller and mostly prefers the sling carrier.

Mistress Allerton was a great source for information on how babies were taken care of in Pilgrim times. They started off feeding their babies solids by mixing flour with beer and putting it in a pap for the babies to suck on. Can you imagine me feeding my baby beer?!

We also found out in the Wampanog village that Native American babies had the first disposable diapers. They would take cattail puffies to wrap around the baby's bottom and then toss them away when dirty. You can tell what my main interest in visiting Plimoth was!

Davy's grumpy face.

Davy's smiley face.

It started pouring rain, but the little ducks were still attraction enough to get us out for a cute picture!

The Old North Bridge was such a peaceful place for a walk. You can tell that Davy is just so good natured (in general) and is learning to smile big when the camera is put in front of his face.

My new favorite picture.

The videos below are yet more of Davy eating. This is pretty much our whole entertainment these days. At least it's free!
