Day of Rest

Our new stake center in Cambridge was dedicated this morning. It was a great meeting--and only 1 1/2 hours long! Davy made it through a little more than half of the meeting in the actual room (due to the fact that we were sitting next to a family of kids who entertained him), which was nice.

On the ride home we stopped for a few minutes to watch the boats on the Charles River and enjoy the Boston skyline from one of our favorite angles.

Davy was sleepy on the way home--so sweet.

Davy does this thing in the car--I don't know whether it is to entertain himself, quiz himself, or because he thinks he is entertaining us--where he goes through all the words and sounds he knows. Here's how it goes: "Beep beep . . . a car. Tweet tweet . . . a bird. Woof woof . . . a dog. Choo choooo . . . a choo choo (train)" and on and on. It's pretty adorable to peek back and see him, hands behind his head in the car seat, chattering to himself. I wish we could capture that on camera, but as soon as we pull it out he stops.

Softball Night

Collin is playing in a CPA softball league this spring. Most of the games are at 9:00 pm, but one last week was at 7:30, so Davy and I got to go watch. Davy loved it! He loved climbing on the fence, tramping through the mud puddles on the field, climbing under the benches, giving all the "guys" in the dugout fives and fist pounds ("pows"). And after the game was over (after a few great catches by Collin and one not-so-great head bonk on Collin's eyebrow) Davy got to run the bases. He actually only made it to first and them back home, but that's the most important, anyway, right?

Camilla Continued

Aunt "Lalilla" had to leave Wednesday afternoon and Davy was heart broken. He actually only cried for a few minutes at the airport, but he continued asking for "Lalilla" all the way home. Later he said, "Lalilla . . . pane (plane)" so I guess my thousand explanations finally sunk in. And he "talked" with her on his pretend phone yesterday, after talking with daddy. So he is reconciled. We had a fun few days, playing at the park and just hanging out. Here are some pics of Davy at Town Field, the park closest to our house.

This was the first time Davy climbed up this side of the big kids' play space. He got the hang of it pretty quickly!

Whee! Love that expression!

"Lalilla" is Here!

My sister, Camilla, is visiting us for a few days before she leaves for the MTC and Florida for her mission. We--especially Davy!--are thrilled she is here. Camilla is the absolute favorite and we the parents are not cool anymore. Davy gives every preference to Aunt "Lalilla" always wanting to hold her hand or sit on her lap or have her read him books.

We spent the day in the city, exploring the Public Gardens and the Freedom Trail. We also splurged on a special treat in honor of Mother's Day, Father's Day and Camilla's birthday. We went to the Chocolate Bar at the Langham Hotel for the all you can eat chocolate buffet. Wow, it was delish! Davy had more sugar in one sitting than I think he's had in his whole life combined. He's more honest than we adults are, though--he stopped when he was full while we kept going to the very limits of our calorie/sweet threshold.

In a chocolate haze.

A sampling of the treats.

Who is that goateed man in the back with the cotton candy?

The Rose Kennedy Parkway (over where the Big Dig used to be) has a great splash park. Tons of kids and dogs (ugh) were enjoying the cool water and Davy jumped right in!

Peek-a-boo must have been the game of choice way back in colonist times when these pews were made.

Make way for ducklings and Davy!

The Scooper Bowl

Last year, we failed to participate in the annual ice cream "Scooper Bowl" held at the Boston City Plaza as a Jimmy Fund fundraiser. We were determined not to miss it this year, so Collin took an extra long lunch and met us in the city last Wednesday. The whole idea is that you pay $8 per person (Davy was free) to gain admittance to the City Plaza area where about 10 different big-name ice cream companies (Ben & Jerry's, Breyer's, Edy's - aka Dreyer's) set up booths and offer free scoops of 4 of their flavors -- all you can eat!

It was all so delicious and lots of fun. We ended up having 24 scoops all together -- 8 scoops per person. Rachel's favorite was the Blood Orange gelato. Among Collin's favorites were the Key Lime Pie gelato and Malted Milk Ball (Whopper's) gelato (guess Ciao Bella gelato won!). Haagen Dazs' Carmel Cone and Lemon Sorbet were up there, too. There was a Blueberry one (Brigham's?) that wasn't bad, either.

Afterwards, we all went to Mass General to have our arteries cleaned.
P.S. Speaking of ice cream (if you're not sick of hearing about it), not sure if Turkey Hill is an ice cream brand out west, but for all you yankees, they have a limited edition "Fried Ice Cream" flavor out right now (must have been left over from Cinco de Mayo). Cinnamon flavored ice cream with pieces of fried dough. Almost like a churro in ice cream form. Darn right delicious with chocolate sauce! Think I'll go have some more . . .

New Camera

After getting over three good years out of our very first digital camera (thanks Mom and Dad!), we decided it was time for an upgrade. Deloitte handed out some small end-of-busy-season bonuses to help spur our decision, so we went shopping. Ended up with a Panasonic Lumix ZS6. Good zoom, small enough for a diaper bag, easy functionality, and -- most of all -- much better at taking indoor pictures, which is very important when trying to document the life of a toddler subject to New England weather.

For a good example, here's a pic of one of Davy's cute sleeping positions after some adjustment to the aperture. This was taken at about 9pm in an almost pitch black room. No flash.

Davy reaching high to pop the bubbles Dad was blowing for him. My--I mean Davy's--new favorite toy that I bought for myself--I mean Davy--last week is a wicked cool bubble blower on sale from Pottery Barn. It blows ginormous bubbles with little bubbles inside and when the huge bubble pops it releases all the little bubbles inside. You've got to see it to believe it!

Watching cars pass by the front of the house. He looks so grown up in this one!

Consider this an action shot. He was right in the middle of saying "truck" as one was passing by.

This is Davy's morning ritual after Dad leaves for work. He loves to point out dogs and cars that pass by. This past week was especially exciting for him as there were trucks and steamrollers going by to re-asphalt the street.

Dinnertime fun -- he loved the lasagna and learned to say it after just a few times of hearing it from us!
