G'day Mate

This year's Lambourne Halloween costumes went all Outback. After being dressed up as a talking cucumber last year, Collin was glad to partially earn his manhood back with a Crocodile Dundee look. Rachel made the best of having to carry a baby around by turning both her and Eddy into kangaroos. Davy went as a pudgy crocodile thanks to Rachel's imagination and sewing skills (she transformed a dragon outfit from Costco by adding a snout with teeth, a tail, and a few extra spikes on the back).

In preparing for Halloween, Rachel and Erica would bribe Davy with candy corn and teach him how to say, "Trick or treat!" so that he'd like wearing the costume on the night of the ward party. They used this same tactic to try to get him to pose for a picture, but unbeknownst to Rachel, Erica usually gave Davy two candy corns. Here's the look on Davy's face when he discovered that he was only given one this time:

The trunk-or-treat was fun; Davy had a blast and really got the hang of it. The entire evening was spent outside so it was a little too dark for anyone to see that our costumes were somewhat coordinated, but we enjoyed playing dress-up anyway. Rachel's favorite moment during the night was when Davy saw a kid in a dog costume lying on the ground. Davy apparently couldn't tell that there was a kid in the costume because he went up to it and started patting him on the head.

Big Brother, Little Brother

My sweet visiting teacher made this cute tie onesie. I'm so sad it will only fit Edward one or two more Sundays. Speaking as one who knows what it is like to be baby deprived, Erica said we needed both these pictures on the blog, so here are two missionary Eddy pics:

And thanks to Erica for the pictures. We would not have anything with which to make a blog post if it were not for her.

Davy has been very occupied with putting objects together lately--train engines and baggage cars, tractors and trailers, etc. He was thrilled when we found a way to attach his wagon to his ride on tractor (another free trash day find!) to be his tractor trailer outside.

We made some Halloween sugar cookies the other day. This picture is deceptive because it shows Davy happily engaged in helping push down the cookie cutter. This was one of two instances of this at the very beginning of our attempt. As soon as he discovered that the dough was cookie dough, he started gobbling it down and slobbering all over the cookie cutters. When we started to limit his intake of cookie dough he ended in a tantrum. Ahh, toddlers.

Sweet brothers in matching clothes! Thanks, aunt Erica for the twiner outfits.

Fall Happenings

Although I promised myself it would never happen, already poor Edward has significantly fewer pictures of himself than Davy did at his same age (18 days!). I guess second children just get shafted that way. But here are some after his first bath (below) and of his favorite arm (above). Eddy was born with his right arm right up by his cheek, just like in the picture. He must have kept it close in the womb, because he is constantly trying to have that hand by his face, especially when he sleeps. Speaking of sleeping (which is a subject perpetually on our minds these days!), Eddy's been doing quite well sleeping at night. He doesn't completely settle down until around midnight, and then he's still up every 3 1/2 or 4 hours to eat, but he goes right back to sleep after nursing and sleeps until 8:30. All in all we feel quite fortunate so far!

My sister, Erica, has been the biggest help these past few weeks. We are so grateful she has been able to be here to hold the baby and play with Davy. She loves all the sweet sleeping baby time!

Davy loves Daddy's baseball mitt. It's way too big and heavy for his hand, but he tries to use it anyway. We went pumpkin "picking" (at Wilson Farms grocery store) yesterday. We got one for each member of our family. Below is Davy holding the baby Eddy pumpkin. Then we got apple cider donuts (a Wilson Farms specialty) and visited all the ginormous pumpkins outside for pictures.

Here are some clips of Davy talking, as requested by Grandma Lambourne. Davy's latest and greatest are knowing each of the alphabet letters (actually, he's known them for a while) and (more recently) all the numbers. He can count by himself to seven. I'm sure this is quite normal for kids his age, but wow, how proud of his intelligence I feel!

I'd been counting the magnetic letters to see how many had ended up under the fridge, and Davy decided to help me count.

Some basic translation: "a little heart"
"a big heart . . . [where did] big heart go?"
"there it is"
"ooh, big heart, little heart"
Then, after Erica asks about Edward, not wanting to perform. When Davy watches himself on the camera, though, he answers all the questions. We'll have to get a video of him watching himself sometime. It's pretty cute.

"teddy bear, teddy" (repeatedly)

Family Pictures 2010

We took family pictures a few days after Edward was born, while my mom was still in town and could do them with her "real" camera (a non-digital, film-required camera). Here are the results!

More Cute Davy Moments

We have some great family pictures and other pictures of Eddy's first few days that we will post soon. In the meantime, here are some more cute Davy moments: This morning during breakfast (at 6:30--really need to adjust that kid's internal clock) Davy informed me "Nana ootah" (Utah) then thought a moment and continued hopefully, "come back." He sure misses having Nana play with him all day long!

We've tried to get Davy out of the house at least once a day--for all our sakes. This has included walks around the block in the rain. But Davy loves to run on the sidewalks and says, "race ya" over and over to whomever is walking with him.

Last night we celebrated Eddy's first week birthday with dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. (I HAD to get out of the house--it wasn't too irresponsible to bring a one week old out in public, right? I kept him in a sling right with me the whole time and no one breathed on him!) Davy had French fries and a lot of cheesecake for dinner. On the drive home the sugar started rushing through his system and we were talking about how hyper he was being. Davy piped up loudly, "I'n so hyper!" and then laughed hysterically at himself.

Davy was playing the peek-a-boo/where'd Davy go? game. With his hands over his eyes he opened his fingers to peek through and said, "windows!" Then he opened his hands all the way and said, "door." Clever kid--no one taught him that!

Collin was driving home in the car with Davy in the back seat. They passed the Dunkin' Donuts on the corner of our street and Davy cried out, "donut house!" He's been there maybe four times in his life--apparently they made a big impression. Of course Collin couldn't resist this cuteness and stopped for donuts.
